Well, I had better make a start on my new blog. My intention is to comment on Colchester related things as I see them. My website has a politics page that has generated a bit of a flap recently over a third party article and it got reported to the police and the press got hold of it and I have been questioned by quite a few people over it. This blog will exercise what I believe is my freedom of speech. Unless, that is, certain Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors start squealing again about things they don't agree with and seek to suppress free speech.

The missus and I went to the Mercury Theatre last night to see 'The Importance of being Ernest'. It wasn't a full house and there were two intervals (not two as per the programme). I know that it is an often performed play but we can always be sure that the Mercury will do a good job. We were not disappointed. Apart from the anti-social but essential to the story smoking of cigarettes which wafted through the auditorium, we thoroughly enjoyed the performance. We can only wonder at how Oscar Wilde would have received this interpretation. Difficult to single out any one of the cast but Ignatius Anthony always seems to have that certain je ne sais quoi. The poofy Algernon was irritatingly superb. I would thoroughly recommend the performance to all those of that certain age. A pint at a local hostelry completed an excellent evening.

On Wednesday night we met up with Cheryl and Christian of Stepaside Tours to discuss guided tour ideas for Colchester. The visitor information place continues to resist promoting tours that do not have the Town Hall stamp on them. We are looking at the possibilities of staging another May Fair, although, as has now become the norm, health and safety, risk assessments, insurance cover, etc will probably put a stop to things.

The Oyster Fayre will soon be upon us and we are starting to get applications from longbow archers from all over the country to take part in the Archer of the Fayre contest. Word is getting round about this event. We have the task of making new targets and are considering the image of a politician for one of them. Any suggestions?
